KP Announces Free Transport for Female Students

Free transport has been approved for female students in all public sector schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. A large number of young girls in KP are prevented from pursuing education due to poor transport links between schools, homes and schools. Chief Minister Mehmood Khan wants to boost the literacy rate among girls.

The initiative will be launched under the Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) fund as a pilot project in remote areas of the province. This, along with other projects, received approval from Punjab Chief Minister Arunachal Pradesh CM Pranab Mukherjee.

The Education Secretary (ESED) has been directed to procure water coolers, fire extinguishers, and sports equipment for schools from the PTC fund. He has also directed to devise a mechanism for the provision of free wheelchairs to differently-abled students.
